You're HR going up interval to interval is an important point to note, but if you are still hitting the power metrics you are getting the desired training benefits. At this point in AT, my understanding is that they are not incorporating HR into the pass/fail criteria and are only using power to quantify that measurement.
What makes your say your HR is not in the correct zone? HR is an extremely subjective measurement that can fluctuate in people, even from workout to workout. This way people don't have to worry about forgetting to calibrate their wheel on trainers, and make sure that the small effort at the start is taken into account as well. It would be interesting to have a feature built into each workout that has a ~10min interval included at the start, then automatically switches to trainer calibration and switches back. Lastly, not related to adaptive training. I was curious if cadence is also taken into account for the model. This of course can be mitigated by lowering the tension on the trainer, but then if the ride has any amount of high power work then the wheel will slip. When looking at power it's a pass, but looking at heart rate for what it is trying to accomplish its a fail.Īdditionally, for wheel on trainers some require a high amount of wheel tension meaning lower power (say during rest intervals, or warmup/cooldown) sometimes isn't possible unless you have an extremely low cadence. For example I'm a newer rider with ADHD and a pretty high resting heart rate, when I do a ride that is supposed to be in a certain zone (or especially when I'm tired, etc) I can still do the ride with the correct power, but my heart rate is way above where it's supposed to be. The issue is that when riding on ERG mode it sticks to the power perfectly so it can't be categorized in that way. Heart rate and cadence: I noticed in the podcast they classify a ride as different kinds of failures, hitting the goal, or excelling in it. I do hope they take these points under consideration in their model: First of all, as someone working in the tech industry I am extremely excited to try out adaptive training (I check my emails every day to see if I got in lol).
